There are several UK university rankings tables, this one is from the Guardian. The usual, well known universities occupy the top places, but undoubtedly any Russell Group university degree will provide decent future prospects.
There is a trend towards more students STEM degrees, as opposed to Humanities courses, different reports claim how Artificial Intelligence (AI) will impact upon future graduate prospects for both of these streams. Personally I feel that the impact will be greater for those wanting to pursue Humanities linked employment programmes, someone has to create and programme the AI after all.
Student loans, finance and accommodation costs are major considerations in relation to choosing whether to go to university, or not, and where to study. In many cases the maximum, available maintenance loan will just about cover accommodation costs, leaving a big gap for ‘cost of living’ expenses. It’s worth noting how the actual value of the maintenance loan has been decreasing over time, since it has not kept pace with inflation. About 30% of university students now choose to live at home and study at their local university, considering the cost of accommodation in university cities this is probably worth serious consideration.
