Nearly a quarter of all GCSE Maths and English entries this year (2025) were resits, the chair of the Joint Council for Qualifications and chief executive of the OCR examination board calls this ”a resit crisis”.
Schools and colleges have little capacity to provide additional support to students who are undertaking English and maths resits, private tuition can really help candidates get to their desired grade. We do this by identifying knowledge gaps and misconceptions, it’s simply just not possible to do this when working in under resourced, large class, state school environments.
